One of my first projects were games on RPG Maker VX Ace, I learnt about these engines purely by accident, and I wanted to create games for a long time. Before that I tried to download Gamemaker 8 (or 8.1), but I got a virus and stopped trying.
Let me tell you right away that they are all unsaved and unfinished. I didn't have an external hard drive at the time, and my computer was terrible.
The very first project I worked on was part of our common project with friends back then, LORE. Before that I was trying to do comics and another friend was writing stories. LORE itself was basically an alternate universe version of Sonic's medieval universe, where the main characters were a griffin, a hedgehog and a dragon who fought the vampire dictatorship in the kingdom.
The name of this one, as I recall was Inter Crow, but here's the name of the game I don't remember, but I definitely remember that it was the same IC, but with a subtitle.
I didn't watch engine tutorials back then and did everything on intuitive. The game was terrible quality as it had default graphics, music and even used pre-made maps.
The second project on the engine was a mishmash. Its full name was TheDoctorStudio:CupcakeFucking Quest.
At that time I started to watch tutorials on the engine and found that I could port any graphics as a titleset. Plus add custom music and the sweetest thing - scripts that make the game more beautiful.
This game was already about me and my friends, it didn't have much of a story, it was just improvisation.
Compared to Inter Crow I spent few hours there to develop this hodgepodge of stolen graphics, music and scripts.
All I can remember is that when I had the MV in my hands I had a brilliant idea. I took the default graphics from MV and simply ported them into VX Ace through Photoshop. It was horrible.
I also remember taking music (which I liked at the time) and changing its tone in the engine itself.
Plus I also remember using memes that I liked (like YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH of TF2 Engineer) and they were either part of the ‘story’ or like a secret).
The only thing that survived was a page on Gamejolt, which is where I wanted to publish my game.
gamejolt.com/games/cfq_alpha/286972After that I stopped making games or anything else for a while, since studying at the time.
When I had time, I moved to MV to work on a ‘collaborative’ project, The Legend of Deimos.
I put ‘collaborative,’ in quotes, because there was a rather unpleasant story with this game, but I don't want to go into the negativity on this forum, if anyone is interested - ask.
I will say that this project was based on the lore of another not-so-good friend. In fact, he and led the project, and I used the accumulated ‘knowledge’ in the engine.
The only thing that has survived is his screenshot.
I remember before Legend of Deimos. There was supposed to be another collab game coming out. The game was supposed to be called Paranoia Escape and was already a survival horror about a girl with amnesia stuck in an abandoned house.
That project didn't last long due to a small conflict and all that survived was the concept art of the girl herself.
I didn't make any games at all after that, but I had ideas.
Then I started doing docs and working on some story and even concept art for a game that hadn't even made it to the engine.
All I remember is that it was supposed to be a game about a girl caught in another world where there were insect/human hybrids. The game was supposed to be black and white and was basically survival horror with a jrpg.
It was cancelled for personal reasons but then grew into another project.
Melancholy Project aka Empyrean. It's basically a relaunch of that project I mentioned earlier and unlike the other projects I still have resources and it's basically not cancelled but frozen. The story has been changed too, but the concept is the same - two people fall in with an unknown world. There was a prototype online for a while, but I removed it. I can send screenshot from the prototype.
The first project I managed to finish (somewhat) is Dysthymia 2.5 (aka D2.5).
I learnt from a youtuber about an engine called Raycasting Game Maker. It basically allowed you to make Wolfenstein 3D style games. Plus that was when I started getting interested in weird games (about Kubus in particular). The game has its own atmosphere, but I will say that RGM is such an engine. Maybe someday I'll remake the game, but on a much better engine.
You can download the game here:
landsofgames.com/old/topic/crow/games/games/D2.5.zipBut be warned - the game is quite unfair it is very difficult.
It used to be on itch, but I removed it because I don't like it.
I finally finished my wall of text. If anyone is interested, they're interested, and if not, they're not.
